spec·tre - (spĕk′tər)
- a ghost; phantom; apparition
- a mental image of something unpleasant or menacing
- the idea of something unpleasant that might happen in the future
In moments of chaos, when the outcome is uncertain, we don’t often rise to the occasion; instead, we fall back on our lowest level of training with the tools we trust. Spectre Knives was born from this understanding—that the right tool can make all the difference when the unexpected arises. Because when the spectres of doubt and uncertainty haunt us, through faith and the right preparation, we can endure. Like a well-crafted blade, we must be ready for the tasks we know and strong enough for those we can’t predict.

Whatever challenges you face, Spectre knives are crafted for your mission and built to endure.
Steel
Based on the requirements, the optimal steel is selected for the job. Bar stock is used to ensure consistent and quality. While hand-forging can provide a truly unique product, bar stock allows for a more consistent and reliable knife. Steel is currently sourced from Jantz Knife Making Supplies.
Belt Sanding
The design is imprinted on the steel and the "stock-removal" method is used to create the rough design. The knife bevels are created with the belt sander, ensuring each height is carefully measured, but unique, as no two grinds are the same.
Heat Treatment
Depending on the type of steel used for the knife the heat treatment may vary immensely. For high carbon steels a quench may be performed in oil followed by several hours in the oven for tempering. For stainless steel, the knife is wrapped in tool steel foil, heated and plate quenched with Aluminum, then a crypo treatment is used, followed by several tempering cycles to ensure durability.
Etching or Polish?
There are several ways to finish a knife and each offers a unique appearance and possible enhancement. The common finishes are either a mirror polish or an acid-etched stone-wash finish.
Wood or Synthetic?
Depending on the use of the knife there may be a choice for a more premium and "artistic" look of the handles with exotic wood. A more durable and resistant utility knife may benefit from a synthetic G10 handle to endure the elements.
Kydex
Each blade is fitted with a custom kydex sheath that keeps the blade covered and accessible. The kydex is heated and press-fitted to the knife. The color and patterns of the Kydex sheaths may vary and the carry options can be selected to have a belt clip or loop.
